Remote Desktop Connection for Staff and Lecturers

In order to facilitate remote access to both licensed software (installed on-site only) and FHWN infrastructure, our terminal server tsmit.fhwn.ac.at is available for use.

Windows 10

In the Windows Accessories Group you can find the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) with which a connection to a remote desktop service can be established.

Step 1: enter the name of the terminal server
Step 2: ensure that all options are shown
Step 3: enter your user name with a preceding fhwn .
Step 4: click on “Connect” to establish a connection

Windows 7

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection
Enter tsmit.fhwn.ac.at into the window that appears. Show the options by clicking “Show Options” > and enter your user name with a preceding fhwn . (e.g.: fhwnFH-user)

Using various Linux distributions, FreeRDP allows a connection to a remote desktop service.

Debian Linux

apt-get install libxfreerdp-client1.1

Example command:
xfreerdp +fonts /d:fhwn /u:USERNAME /v:tsmit.fhwn.ac.at
